In many cultures throughout time, monsters have served to warn and protect, influencing our behaviour and carrying moral force. Perhaps our distant ancestors believed not so much in the monster itself, but more in the wisdom it embodied, the monster as signal or insight. Monsters as guides in an uncertain and changing world. Can we look to the future in new or different ways through considering the actions of the monsters we have created? Can monsters be our guide again?

For the Creative Coding Utrecht exhibition GARDENING at the Amelisweerd estate, we invited five artists for an expert workshop resulting in the creation of monsters representing different forces that have shaped Amelisweerd over the centuries.

A self-guided walkshop was also developed for the exhibition, guiding visitors on a monster-hunting expedition of their own through Amelisweerd. An invitation to see what monsters you can find yourself.
